So, I recently made a short film. I got a couple of pals to be superstars in it, the two pals already pictured in this blog, Amy Studt and Adam Harmer of One Man Destruction Show fame. Also, a lovely new friend, Rob Parkinson from The Cabinet of Living Cinema kindly offered his services and introduced me to accordion player extraordinaire Louisa Jones and sound engineer Henry Gillespie. This is the extra extra short version, sort of a teaser or something. Its a bit shit though really, well, no, but a rush job so a very bad edit and I spelt accordion wrong. Ummm..
For a summer afternoon, the sky is particularly dark and mysterious; the street is bare and the mood charged with gloom.
An oddity absorbed by melancholy through the uninhibited prejudice of others, Lorne, neither male nor female is balancing dangerously close to the edge of sanity.
A friendly smile is a welcomed light amongst the dismal obscurity that beleaguers everyday life for Lorne, a smile that was staring him in the face all along.
The story takes a charming yet abstract portrayal of reality and entwines it with an illusive and unsettling depiction of life’s shortcomings. As we follow the joys and lows of ones search for companionship, Lorne, misunderstood and unable to find acceptance in the world, instead finds comfort and a friend in a very unusual place.
Showing elements of a surrealist aesthetic, combined with comical satire, this film noir brings about the viewers empathy towards the solitary lead character, whilst simultaneously creating a distinct feeling of unease.
